Effect of atromid and its components on uric acid excretion and on gout.

چکیده
In the early studies on atromid, which is ethyl p-chlorophenoxyisobutyric acid (clofibrate or C.P.I.B.) with androsterone, Thorp (1962) reported that, in monkeys, this preparation increased uric acid excretion in addition to lowering plasma lipids. Also Oliver (1962) reported that atromid lowered serum uric acid levels in patients with ischaemic heart disease. We therefore investigated its possible usefulness as a uricosuric agent. The acute effects of atromid and its components on urinary excretion of uric acid in man were studied first. C.P.I.B. alone was found to have at least as potent an effect on uric acid excretion as atromid. Experiments were then done to see if acetylsalicylic acid antagonized the effect of C.P.I.B., as it does the effects of probenecid (Yu and Gutman, 1959). Finally, the effect of long term administration of atromid on the serum uric acid levels of patients with gout is reported.

Effects of combination treatment using anti-hyperuricaemic agents with fenofibrate and/or losartan on uric acid metabolism.
OBJECTIVE To assess the effect of a combination treatment using anti-hyperuricaemic agents with fenofibrate and/or losartan on uric acid metabolism in hypertriglyceridaemic and/or hypertensive patients with gout. METHODS Twenty seven patients with gout were included in a fenofibrate plus anti-hyperuricaemic agents combination study, and 25 in a losartan plus anti-hyperuricaemic agents combina...
متن کاملConcise report The effect of the systemic inflammatory response, as provoked by elective orthopaedic surgery, on serum uric acid in patients without gout: a prospective study
Objective. Acute gout is associated with a decrease in serum uric acid (SUA) that is considered to be in response to acute inflammation but it may be a feature of gout itself. We, therefore, aimed to investigate the effect of the acute systemic inflammatory response (SIR) on SUA concentrations in subjects without gout. Methods. SUA and urinary excretion of uric acid (UA) (expressed as fractiona...
متن کاملRecent insights into the pathogenesis of hyperuricaemia and gout.
Gout is a common rheumatic disease in humans which is characterized by elevation in serum uric acid levels, and deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint. Hyperuricaemia is the primary risk factor for the development of gout and primates have uniquely high levels of serum uric acid due to missense mutations in the uricase gene. Levels of serum uric acid are known to be highly heritable, and...
متن کاملAcute gout attack with normal serum uric acid levels.
AIM The paper aims to determine the prevalence of clinical cases with acute gout attacks and normal serum uric acid levels. MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective study was conducted between October, 2013 and June, 2014 in 30 patients diagnosed with acute gout attack admitted to the 1st Clinic of Rheumatology of Iasi. The diagnosis was based on clinical manifestations and positive response t...
متن کاملGout in women.
WOMEN GET GOUT TOO Gout is not rare in women. Although women comprise approximately 5% of all gout patients, the incidence has risen. According to Arromdee, et al, the incidence of gout in men and women has doubled over the past 20 years. Because it is principally a disease seen in men, gout is often misdiagnosed in women, and/or the diagnosis is often delayed. In this article we will discuss s...
